Epoxy Types

Post by lucinda_carroll »

Hi everyone,

I'm sure this question has been asked before so I apologize for repeating, but I'm building my first cedar-strip canoe (Freedom 15') and have absolutely no experience with epoxy. What exactly is the difference between the East, West, and Raka epoxy systems and which would be best for a first-time builder? I'm planning on getting two gallons, but correct me if that seems like too little. Thanks so much!

I know many have said, that two gallons is enough.
I've always preferred to have extra epoxy. In case something goes wrong.
Better to have extra, than run short.
You can always use the extra for repairs. or use making other things.
I use RAKA, and buy the three gallon kit, two gal. of resin, and one gal. hardener. 2 to 1 mix ratio.
Two gal, of 127 Resin, and one gal. of their 350 Non blushing hardener.
They have served me well, at a reasonable cost.
I also order my cloth from them. This insures compatibility of the two.

My best advise when a first timer glasses a hull ? Have some help, especially some one with experience !
You put a lot of time and money into building the hull ! It would be a shame to ruin it !
Keep your paddle wet and your seat dry!
