Anyone know the names of sources for long lengths of ash, rough cut, in the New England area? After reading the last comments, and looking around the Web, I've decided to avoid oak for the stems due to the epoxy issues. So might as well get some ash for both the stems and the gunwales. Thanks fotr the tips. Think I will go with red oak. After some research, it looks tried and true, bends well, and I have enough to find some straight grained pieces

Yes, it is heavier than cedar. I think it will add about 5 lbs to the fiinished canoe compared to various cedars. I am using it because that is what I have. The cedars are still on the stump, and my wife won't let me cut em till we sell the house. I have about 10 x 50 to 70 ft rees planted as shrubs...

I'm starting a Bob's and using as much of my own lumber as possible. It is all airdried over many years. I'll be using white pine for the planking,with some accent strips of black walnut.
