I was only able to get 10 ft oak and need 16 so I just took 8ft boards and made my strips and then scarfed them. Took a board and screwed it to my miter guage and that allowed me to get a clamp on the strip a a perpendicular to the mitre guage (swing of 90 degrees added to the angle of the mitre) I ...

Consider the following: The first coat of epoxy to your hull is a mechanical bond. It is however a very strong one due to the absorbsion of the epoxy into the wood fibers. Any such further mechanical bond to the wood is no longer posible from this point on unless you sand down to the wood again. A c...

What is the advantage of a 1/2" bit over a 1/4" bit all others things being equal? Does the larger radius make for a cleaner cut? better control? A bigger Tim Taylor Grunt Factor?

Almost seems to go against logic doesn't it? Go through all that trouble to made a water tight hull and you want to go and put a couple of holes in it. I'm paying attention because I need to do this yet on mine.

Well after much thought and consideration I decided to scrap the cedar wales that I had almost had epoxied to the hull. I then went and purchased two planks of Red Oak turned one into strips and blocks for the wales and the other into 3/4" x 1.5" strips for the seat frames. This left me wi...

Thanks for the input Jack. The plywood frames you inquired about are in fact going to stay as they are, fully epoxied and filleted in place, The is actually 38 inches from the frame to the bulkheads so that should be plenty of leg space even with a deep seat. The frames are a a single 1/4 inch thick...
