Epoxy sanding before varnishing

I have started sanding my kayak epoxy in order to varnish. I am concerned as to the amount I have to sand. Do you have to get rid of all the shiny spots or can you leave them? The point that I am at now I have some shiny spots and lines about 1/32 nd to 1/16 th in size. Will these cause a problem wh...

Kayak seat position

I have finished two Venture kayaks and am about to set the foot braces and the seats. My question is is there a particular spot to set the seat for balance in the kayak? Or do I leave putting the seat in permanent till I can get it on the water and find a good spot?

I have currently done two complete kayaks in the basement and found no fume problems. My family noticed no bad smells or fumes anywere in the house. Trust me I would have heard if it was bad. Yes I did have a large 24" fan for the window but mostly used that when I was sanding.I was doing thw ep...

Kayak Seat question again

Thanks for the great input everybody. The minicell foam seat looks like a good option. However in cruising the net I found two that look decent. NRS Kayak seats and the Newfound Woodworks minicell foam seats. I seem to be partial to the Newfound Woodwork seat as it comes with a seat back and looks de...

Kayak Seats

Any thoght on kayak seats. I have built two Venture 14's and I am almost at the point of seats. I don't know whether to buy seats or make. Also with the shallow depth of the kayaks I am thinking something thin as just the seat pad. Any thoughts :thinking would be very helpfull.

Packing tape problem

Most of the packing tape used to protect the edges of my kayaks is off. Any great ideas on how to get all the sticky glue off after? My finger nails are just about gone from picking tape off.
:confused

Cockpit Location

I am currentl building two venture 14 kayaks. As per other posts on the forum I am having difficulty in locating the cockpit. On the forum you mention to scale off of page 31 of the plans in the book Kayakcraft. I have done this and come up with a location of the back edge of the cockpit at about 14...

Another Venture 14 question

Shouldn't the shearpoints for the deck end at the same points as the hull?

Kayakcraft Venture 14 Lofting question

I am trying to plot the deck profiles of the venture 14 from the 1999 kayakcraft tables. It seems to me that the profile numbers and the Shear numbers are reversed. If I plot the numbers that are there the deck profile is lower than the shear line. Table numbers are Venture 14 Heights Station 5 Shea...
