That was my thinking as well. The intent was a smooth surface of epoxy with the coin below (on top of a base of epoxy so it would be completely encapsulated....

My worry was some wacky chemical reaction between silver and the epoxy.

Chris, It looks great. It must have been quite exciting to see the rich colors come out! We're looking forward to glassing this weekend. We don't have a temp problem any more (since punching a hole in the heating duct for upstairs) but I do have a question for the experts: The humidity in the garage...

Don't know. I was wondering the same thing. I thought I would do some tests with another coin before committing this one to the deck....

If someone else out there has an answer, it would be much appreciated.

thanks!

It will be recessed (and expoxy'd) into the deck. I think Patrick's strategy will be to tell you all about the coin and the name so that by the time he's done, your head will be spinning and you will just go in circles during the race. You might consider adding a keel to your Redbird :laughing

I think you got it right. The coin is a 1966 Canada silver dollar with 2 vouyager's in it. If you look real close at the canoe on the coin, it has something round on the side of it near the front (maybe it's a coin) http://img.groundspeak.com/cache/0079de93-e020-4c8f-8a4e-d27110db72bd.jpg No thought...

I had no idea of this tradition. And we just thought the coin with a canoe on it would look cool. I didn't think of being able to use it after I drown. Now I got that going for me. :tu

We'll wear PFD's anyway...

The Upside down maple leaves are made from strips (not inlay) of differing color WRC.

Didn't we cover this topic already (a few months ago)? Thanks for the support Glen!

And MT, you're on for a race (best 2 out of 3 swamps).

It's a maple leaf. It's only upside down if you're from Canada. Here in the US, they hang from the trees from the stem down. But as well as I paddle, it will probably spend much of it's time as shown in the picture anyway.

Can't capture the smell but here's a photo just after wetting the hull down.

MTpockets, Good advice on vacuuming the ceiling (lots of dust and spiderwebs up there right now). Thanks!

Thanks!

We bought pre-milled strips (18' lengths) from Ian McGrath at Great Northern Crafts in the Vancouver area. The quality was excellent. The price was high (but not the highest we found by any means). The shipping cost was painful (about $250 USD including shipping container and residential delivery to...

Carts? Carts? Boy Scouts don't need carts! That's why they have those strong backs (not to be confused with strongbacks). Thinking about my canoeing experience with Boy Scouts in the Quetico Provincial park, I wouldn't think that carts would be useful at all given the rough terrain involved. In some...

Thanks for the advice. We don't have any places where light shows through the canoe (didn't have any of those even before we started filling). But we still do have a few places where you can see a small separation between the strips on the outside. We don't want to over do it on the filing as each f...
