Favorite Varnish or Finish

I was wondering what is the most popular finish us boatbuilders are using now. I have always used Z-Spar Flagship. Let me know what you use.

Thanks Gary and Scott, I did get the forms pulled today and got a sealer coat inside the hull. As I suspected, I got a lot of bubbles with the filler coat, hopefully it will cut down on air bubbles when I glass the hull. With any luck glass the inside of the hull tomorrow.
Thanks again

Thanks Lisa, It is a One Ocean Kayak; Expedition. This is my second one and I love the way it handles for a 18' kayak.

Hey Adam, I store my boats in an unheated space (indoors) and it gets 10F below here in Nebraska does not seem to hurt them at all. I do cover them with a tarp to keep the dirt off. I would not worry about it.
Sounds like your first trip went great. :tu

Its been my eperiance that when using straight cedar flour it generally comes out darker than needed. But it is usually better to go a little darker when filling cracks because it is less noticable.

Thanks Markham, I bought 2 yards and probably have a 2 foot piece left. But I did add an extra layer of carbon when I could have used fiberglass. You could probably do it with 1 yard, I will use the extra for deck re-enforcement strips inside the deck.

Thanks Glen, yes the riser will be visible but as with most coamings not very much of it will show. Your right about the cost I think it was $45 FOR A 50"X36" piece. I felt since I tested my abilities on the deck design the coaming seemed the thing todo.
Thanks again

First Time- Carbon Fiber Coaming- Pics

I finally tried making a coaming out of carbon fiber. Pretty nervous at first but I think it turned out ok. What do you all think. Its not epoxied to the coaming ring yet, so the inside has not been trimed to the inside of the deck http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/RonMc1954/kayak2050.jpg http:...

GlenD, I use a roller then dry brush on every coat except wet out and have no problems. It does seem I need 4 coats instead of 3. It does apply it thinner. What kind of roller are you using? I have been getting my rollers from the local True Value store they are a dense foam roller about 4 inches lo...
