I am kind of a tools guy ... I don't have a rotating orbital sander ... just one of these palm sanders ... but perhaps a DA pnuematic is in my future.

I am learning Jim ... there a bit less glue lately. Plus I've been praticing sharpening my planes. there is too much glue.

I am using a stick, indeed. I am trying to plane with the sole of the plane parallel to the direction of the stick, which seemed to have worked at the other stem. The idea of sanding with the stick never occurred to me. This will be very useful. Despite having read it in Ted's book and hearing you r...

I think I got this figured out. I think this looks like the pattern now. Rebuilding the stem stations and getting it square and plumb in the strongback revealed that the keel isn't quite straight down the length of the mold. Thanks all for your help.

As it turns out, station 7 was also off (short) by 1/8 inch, so the two combine for an error if 1/4 to 3/8 inch. I'll probably need to double check all the stations.
