Danny Thanks very much for the photo link ! The bottom half of the pic titled "canoe 37" is pretty much the issue in a nutshell. Did you sand the entire hull or just the suspect spots ? In my case, I likely will resurface the whole hull. At least I would have some chance of a uniform re-co...

Lisa- No problem sanding, as I recall ( did this one almost a year ago ). Just used a random orbit to get the surface "close", then hand sanded the rest of the way, 80 g. then 120 g. I did use acetone before gluing, and before 'glassing to remove oils from the tropical woods. Evaporates ve...

Finishing tip

Anyone using todays Marine varnishes knows about the frustrations in trying to get the " last perfect" coat on and calling it quits. I've had quite a few of those " last coats" and the frustration of finding one run or sag in the " last Coat" the following morning. Many...

extra fiberglass layer on the bottom

:thinking I have a question regarding the direction of the weave when applying a second layer of 6 oz. cloth to the exterior bottom of a canoe ( or any other boat I guess if it is going to be finished clear). My wife and I just finished a mahogany Whitehall using the WEST system. The architect and ...
