Spring has sprung and I am back in the shop

Post by RonMc1954 »

Hello fellow boat builders, I have finally got back in the shop after a cold winter. For those who may be new or don't remember my kayak project here is the link to the post I did last fall"
http://www.bearmountainboats.com/phpbb2 ... sc&start=0
I have to tell you my plite over the winter, I rushed to get epoxy on last fall and then came the cold. Over the winter I began to notice some air bubbles forming on the deck, I did not think to much about it. Then I saw some sticky areas on the deck, I just thought it got to cold before the epoxy cured.
I finally got back in the shop last week and started to repair the air bubbles, as I cut one out the fiberglass just kept coming off. After alot of thought I found that the wet out coat never cured. I remember now when I did the first fill coat it seemed that my resin and hardener bottles had been turned and I mixed the wet out 2 hardener and 1 resin, BIG MISTAKE. Anyway all is well I stripped and re-fiberglassed and now working on the coaming. Here are a few pics, just to keep the forum upto date.
Sorry for the long post.

Nice job Ron, thanks for the update. You had better put the cap back on the glue bottle before it hardens. :laughing
