The Reward or What it's all about
Took the old beat up Freedom 17 out on a quick end of year trip to Pine Lake in the BWCA this last weekend. After the years of owning this one, I've replaced the fiberglass on the bottom twice, fixed holes, and generally it's beat up. The wood has darkened which I love, and it still paddles great. We always have to mention that when we're out.
One the the rewards of building a canoe is that you get to use it to paddle places like Johnson Falls pictured above. The falls are a short hike on the west end of the six mile long Pine Lake.
Canoes make great tables for cooking on and hanging out next to under a tarp. They allow you to organize in the dreary rain. The Freedom has an especially nice bottom to set up on.
Nothing like the bright color of cedar in the fall.
Hope everyone got out to do some paddling this year. Feel free to post some pictures from your wooden canoe adventures.
