Launch of a S&G Day Tripper

Post by John E »

Finally got it launched on Labor day.

Started on Memorial Day weekeknd. S&G construction, not sure what wood makes the ply core but it is very blond and cheap at Home Depot. Had no voids. The wales are red oak and the seat frames and mounting braces are also the same Red Oak.
I used 10 oz 4" wide tape on all joints inside and out and the but joints are also made with tape on both sides. The hull is glassed 1 layer inside and out of 6oz cloth (RAKA)
epoxy was RAKA with slow hardner (hot summer days made it a neccesity) Final weight is 61.5 lbs at 15' 4"

Paddle made from a 2x6 Southern Yellow Pine. Very light and easy to use.
(Ok There is a store bought one that my son is using just so we could get out on the water)

1st paddle had 3 people in it and it was very stable. easy to control.
