Installing the Seats

Post by mvettori »

I am soooo close to putting this thing in the water! :twisted evil I'm at the part of installing the seats. I've read that lower is better for stability, but too low is uncomfortable to the paddler. Is there a rule of thumb for how far off of the bottom the seats should hang?

Currently, the top of my seat is about 11 inches from the canoe floor, using about an inch and a half spacer, and giving the paddler's legs a little more than a 10 inch clearing under the seat. Does that seen appropriate?

Thanks

Mike,
Depending on your shoe size, you are right in the ball park.

Mike,

You can try some temporary fasteners to see if you like the height, then plug the holes later when you are happy with it. Making seat spacers a little shorter or longer is a pretty easy job.

I try and set my seats on my solos at about 9in. This seems comfortable enough, but I want to try 8in. especially on one hull.
Start low, it's easier to shorten than make them longer.
Good luck!
